👀 Engineering at Ageras

Engineers are dedicated to delivering scalable, reliable, and user-centric solutions through a robust, modern architecture that fuels our continuous growth. Our team of 150 talented engineers is structured into tribes, each responsible for a key area of our product. Each team is composed of an Engineering Manager, a Product Manager, a Product Designer, and Software Engineers, working collaboratively to drive innovation and excellence.

The Banking tribe is divided into four sub-teams, each playing a key role in delivering and operating our banking services:

• Banking Operations: Handles back-office tools, banking accounting, and compliance through fraud detection and reporting.
• Banking Activation: Drives customer onboarding, KYC/KYB processes, and boosts revenue through conversion and upselling strategies.
• Banking Experience : Enhances user interactions with features like account management, payments, and card lifecycle across all markets.
• Banking Platform: Builds and maintains the technical foundation, including card issuing, SEPA integration, and ledger management.

Regarding our stack, our architecture is structured in microservices and cloud functions, and we use React, React Native, Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Docker, Terraform, and AWS.

📋 Your Role as an Engineering Manager

We are building our own core banking platform to power Ageras’ expansion across Europe. This is a mission-critical initiative that will give us full control over our banking infrastructure, optimize our costs, and enable seamless integration with our accounting and invoicing products. We need an experienced leader who can drive this strategic project, combining deep technical knowledge with strong execution capabilities.

Your responsibilities will include: 

1) Team Management and Growth

• Lead and mentor a team of 3, with plans to grow to 7-8 by 2025 through internal transitions and recruitment.
• Foster growth through guidance and clear development paths while building a collaborative, high-performing culture.

2) Technical Ownership

• Oversee the design and delivery of Ageras' Core Banking systems, consolidating our services across markets into a unified platform.
• Ensure the systems meet high standards of reliability and performance (SLO, incident management, and operational support).
• Drive architectural decisions by proposing and implementing innovative technical solutions.

3) Strategic Collaboration

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and other Engineering Managers to define priorities, shape the roadmap, and ensure the timely delivery of impactful features.
• Partner closely with Staff Engineers specializing in the Banking domain to tackle architectural and technical challenges.

• You have at least 5 years of backend development experience in a JavaScript/TypeScript environment and have managed teams in dynamic, fast-evolving settings.
• You have worked in regulated environments like FinTech or online banking, ideally with transactional systems or BaaS.
• You have a strong grasp of coding and architectural best practices, including system scalability, reliability, and cost optimization.
• You are a humble and trusted leader who enjoys nurturing talent and guiding teams toward success.
• You can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and shared understanding.
• You thrive in high-growth environments, adapting to scaling challenges and contributing actively to recruitment and team structuring.

1️⃣ A 30' first call with Annaïg (Talent Acquisition Specialist) to get to know you better and share more about Ageras.

2️⃣ A 60' interview with Thomas (Engineering Director) to discuss your past experiences and the role we are offering.

3️⃣ A 45’ hands-on coding session to demonstrate your problem-solving skills, followed by a 45’ system design discussion to evaluate your architectural approach and technical thought process.

5️⃣ A 30’ conversation with a Product or Strategy representative to explore cross-functional collaboration and discuss how your role aligns with our broader business goals.
